  • Now workshops and the website are in Spanish to help encourage more Hispanic-owned businesses to get online.
  • We’ve partnered with Intuit to provide the websites, with support from local and national small business organizations.
  • See blogpost here with summary of 50 state venture.
  • These events will have multiple workshops that provide businesses with a fast, easy, and free way to get a website and tips on how to build an online presence.  Everything that is available at the event is also available online at www.gybo/espanol (please use this link http://goo.gl/Ut4nq so we can track traffic from LATISM)
  • We hosted events in LA & Miami last year and are thrilled to be back and offering the events in Spanish.
  • Get Your Business Online is a Google-led program dedicated to driving economic growth by providing local businesses the tools and resources to get online, grow and expand.

  • One of the most important ways that we can help small businesses and the economy is to help businesses increase their presence visibility online -  this enables them to find new customers and sell more products and services.

Research

  • According to the US Census, Hispanic businesses have seen 44% growth in the past 5 years.
  • US Hispanics generate new ventures 3x faster than the general population.
  • US Hispanics represent the fastest growing segment of SMBs in the US. The potential economic impact of getting these businesses online is huge.
  • While 97% of internet users go online to look for local products and services, 58% of US small businesses do not have a website.

Why did you choose to do a specific program for Hispanic owned businesses? US Hispanics represent the fastest growing segment of SMBs in the US. The potential economic impact of getting these businesses online is huge. This initiative will increase access to the web for Spanish-speaking business owners.

What’s in this for Google?

We are committed to a vibrant web, and think that small businesses have a large role to play, as 97%  of users look for local products and services online. We also believe that the more small businesses we can help, the more we can help the US economy.

More opportunity to connect customers with businesses. If someone is searching for “plumber in Miami” and there are no results, a plumber will lose that business opportunity. The searcher won’t find what they are looking for, and that is bad for Google.

Where else have you done this program?

We have now done events in all 50 states, but are continuing to make our way across the country to get even more businesses online.

What are the goals ? How many businesses do you want to get online?

We want to get as many businesses online as we possibly can over the next year, we hope many hundreds of thousands.  We are working with our partners to reach out to all  businesses around the country who aren’t online yet. We think that if we can help small businesses grow and expand around the country, we can help our economy.

Where else has Google done this?

Google has launched programs very similar to Get Your Business Online in 40+ countries including Great Britain, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Thailand, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Hungary and Poland.  These were very successful in helping businesses get online and start expanding their customer base.

In the US, we have been to all 50 states!

How much will domain hosting cost in the second year? According to Intuit, after the first year, the website costs just $4.99/month and the domain name $2/month. It can be cancelled at any time.

Meet Nicole Presley!

Greetings! I’m Nicole Presley. Let me take a minute to introduce myself. I am a true native of Los Angeles, being born and raised in the City of Angels.  LA is my stomping ground and I know this city inside and out.  As we all know, this town is home to some of the best food in all of California, and I am an authority on the food scene here.  I have been eating my way through this city since I was a wee girl, and know where every hidden treasure lies.  I credit my appreciation for food from extraordinary eating experiences and the introduction to the variety of foods Los Angeles offers. Having the best of the city since I was a teen really helped me develop my palate and know exactly what flavors I was looking for when cooking.

At the age of 12,  I tried my hand at cooking and have been in the kitchen ever since. I now write an original recipe food blog called Presley’s Pantry where you could also find my webisode series, and I co-write a breakfast blog called The Two Good Eggs. I am proudly associated with Idaho Potato Commission, Maseca, Wonderful Pistachios, KitchenAid, ConAgra Foods, The California Milk Board, and in the summer of 2012 my Chipotle Macaroni Salad will be packaged and sold in Fresh & Easy Markets.

I am thrilled to join the LATISM-LA team as a Co-Director, and bring my knowledge of food to the table. Buen Provecho!

Wanna see my recipes, go to my website. Or follow me on Twitter and Pinterest.

Get Beach Ready for Summer!

The sun’s been shining, and of course with this great L.A. beach weather comes the desire to get in shape for the summer.  We all have fitness goals – maybe it’s to fit into that bikini that’s been lurking in the back of your closet (you know the one) or to have the energy to impress your friends with a killer spike during a game of beach volleyball – but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start.

Don’t fret Angelenos! I’m here to help motivate you to get moving and achieve your fitness goals, no matter what they may be.  And I found out about two low to no cost opportunities that will help you get that beach body you’ve always wanted.

Shape Magazine is bringing their Summer Beach Tour back to Hermosa Beach on June 2! With popular classes like Bikini Bootcamp, FuseDance, Bootylicious Buns and even surf lessons, you can find a way to break a sweat no matter what your fitness level. The best part is that tickets are only between $10 and $15 and the proceeds go to The Skin Cancer Foundation.  Plus you get an amazing swag bag.

And for those of you who don’t want to wait until June 2 to kick it into high gear with Shape, there is a brand new fitness studio on the West side that offers group exercise classes. Dynamic You offers a variety of classes such as Zumba, Boot Camp, Nike Training and TRX.  I checked out a few of their offerings this week and their trainers are friendly and knowledgeable and I love the positive energy flowing through this place!  And if you go check them out before May 31, you will get a week of group exercise classes free!  To redeem the offer, all you have to do is select the promotional package price upon checkout  or shoot them an e-mail at info@yoursimplefitness.com . Of course, if you want to check them out, they’re located at 3500 Overland Ave. Suite #110 Los Angeles, CA 90034.

I would love to see in the comments what you’re doing to get beach ready for the summer – and if you check out either of the opportunities shared here, please let me know as well!

Don’t get caught getting ready :-)

LATISM LA launches with The White house

When it came time to announce the official re-launch of LATISM ‘s Los Angeles Chapter, we knew it had to be big.  And what bigger way is there to present the nation’s largest social network for Latinos to the Los Angeles community than along side our nations’s highest office: The White House.

On April 4, 2012, senior Obama Administration officials joined L.A. Community leaders at the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles for an exclusive soiree.  The event was a who’s who of the most influential Latinos that serve our community both in the private and public sectors.  To top off the evening, Alma Award-winning actress and human rights activist Q’orianka Kilcher lent her vocals for a performance that will not soon be forgotten.

We want to thank everyone that came out in support of Latinos in Social Media in Los Angeles.  Your continued support is what will allow us to have a positive impact in our community for years to come.

Latina Style and LATISM (Recap)

We at LATISM LA were very excited to tell you about Latina Style Magazine ‘s Business Development program in early April. Well a few of us had a chance to attend the business series, which is  the most successful ongoing business development program for Latina business owners in the nation, in order to learn more about creating a personal brand and launching a successful business.  To add to the excitement, our very own Jes Sofia Valle was invited to moderate a panel on ‘Blogging for Dollars’.

The event concluded with an inspiring luncheon that recognized the efforts of several Latina business owners in our community.  Mistress of Ceremonies Jessica Carrillo, host of Acceso Total on Telemundo, added an extra touch that made the event all the more memorable.

If you missed out on the Latina Style business series, don’t worry, we’re here to keep you abreast of events in LA that will help you strengthen your brand and develop a social media presence!
